Dr. Greenberg conducts very thorough examinations that include checking your teeth and gums, as well as your bite (the way your upper and lower teeth meet).
To begin your exam, our staff will take a full set of digital X-rays. Digital X-rays use 90% less radiation than regular X-rays and give a more detailed view.
Extensive oral examination
Dr. Greenberg conducts a full, tooth-by-tooth exam and a comprehensive analysis of your gums. He will gently probe the spaces between your teeth and gums – known as pockets – to measure their depth. Pocket depths are a measure of severity of periodontal disease. He also checks for other signs of gum disease: loose teeth, bone loss and receding gums.
He looks for signs of oral cancer, such as abrasions or lesions that aren’t healing normally. In addition, he does an external exam of your head and neck, checking for swollen lymph nodes and problems with your jaw joint.
Dr. Greenberg will review your medical and dental history, as well as any additional information you provide.
As many of our patients are referrals by their general dentist, they are already aware of the issues requiring treatment by a periodontist. Periodontists are specialists in treating gum disease, and in placing dental implants. Dr. Greenberg can give an overview of treatment options for common problems such as gum recession, bone loss and loose or missing teeth.
Dr. Greenberg uses a tiny, handheld intraoral camera that displays images of your mouth on a large monitor so that you can see exactly what he sees. This allows Dr. Greenberg to clearly explain the problem, and helps you make informed decisions about your dental care.
After Dr. Greenberg has evaluated the condition of your teeth and gums, he will offer options for treatment. He uses innovations in dental technology, such as a surgical microscope, that provides better access and visibility through magnification, allowing for a truly minimally invasive procedure.
Dr. Greenberg is in network with many insurance carriers, and his team will do their best to help you maximize your benefits. For patients without insurance, we offer other options to ensure that you receive the dental care that you deserve.
